Help for The Haunted-Characterization

In the begining of the story, there are not many main characters. Characters are the base of a story and with out them, there would be nothing to write about!  The main charcters in Help For The Haunted, By John Searles, are Sylvie,a 14 year old girl, and Rose, Sylvies older sister. These two girls have gone through many different problems and difficult situations in their lives, but nothing compares to the tragedy that strikes that affects their lives forever.
Sylvie is a quiet, and very antisocial girl who struggles to find her place in this world. She doesn't have very many friends due to the fact that her parents work with ghosts and everyone knows about it. Her classmates think that what her parents do for a living is crazy and they think that she is apart of it. No one has gotten to know her on a deeper level to found out what she is truly like on the inside.
Rose, on the other hand, is more outgoing and she is the exact opposite of Sylvie. She is wild and care-free and without Sylvie in her life, she would be absolutley crazy. Together, these girls manage to go through life and the many problems it brings them. They make eachother stronger and they help eachother grow as people.

Help For The Haunted: Update

This week, I chose to continue reading Help For The Haunted, by Amanda Hocking. In the chapters that I read, many new things happened and there was more rising action leading up to the conflict. Sylvie's older sister, Rose, has become her legal guardian after their parents died and in the pages that I read, it was clear that they did not want anyone else to be responsible for them. Due to the fact that Sylvie and Rose lived by themselves, a lady who worked in the government was hired to check up on them and make sure their living conditions were healthy and fine. This lady recommended that they should have a babysitter come in and stay with them for a few weeks to make sure they are living the way they are supposed to.

A few weeks later, they actually did hire babysitter, who went by the name Dot. Dot thought that this job was going to be like any other and that it was going to be quick and easy money. She thought wrong. After only a few hours on the job, the two sisters have Dot thinking that she is insane and that something completely abnormal was taking place in that household. So Dot then fleas the home and vows never to step foot near there ever again. What possibly could've taken place that caused this much commotion? The secrets lie inside this home and once you've stepped foot inside, your life will never be the same.

Switched- Amanda Hocking

The book that I am going to talk about is called Switched, by Amanda Hocking. This story is definitely and unusual one, but it will always have you on the edge of your seats. It starts out with the main charcter, Wendy, a 17 year old girl, living with her brother and her aunt. You see, ever since Wendy was young, her mother has always hated her and she sensed that Wendy wasn't even her child. For her whole life, Wendy grew up with a poor relationship with her mom, so she was sent to live with her aunt. As she grows up, she thinks that her life is normal and she just has bad luck. Out of the blue, this strange boy appears in her life and he does not go away. When she realizes who he is, her life is changed forever.

The boy, Finn, was sent to protect her and tell her what she really is. She is a troll. No, she is not your stereotypical, long haired, gross troll, she looks like a human but in reality, she is not. Finn trys to help her and he trys to get her to realize her future, what she is capable of, and how she can change the world. Throughout the story, the characters go through many different conflicts and their personalites evolve. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys scientific fiction and anyone who enjoys a different type of book.

Help For The Haunted - John Searles

The book that I am reading is called, "Help for the Haunted" by John Searles. This story is about a 14 - year old girl, named Sylvie, who goes through life in a different  and complicated way all because of what her parents do for a living. Her parents work with spirits and ghosts and they help people get rid of negative spirits in their homes. Obviously, this is a rare and unusual occupation for parents to have so you could imagine why Sylvie hasn't really told anyone about it. She is already a shy and quiet kid so she doesn't want people to judge her anymore than they already do for just being herself so she keeps this secret to herself.

This story has an interesting and lively plot for many different reasons. Something big happens in the beginning that really starts the book off with a powerful and unexpected twist. This major event does affect the plot and the story overall. It kind of forms an idea of what it is going to be about and what is going to happen. Even though I am not finished with the book, I can tell that it is going to be interesting and I predict that the main characters will definitely evolve and become dynamic characters. I would recommend this story to anyone who loves reading mysterious and adventurous books and enjoys a plot that is always action-packed and lively.

Summer Reading

Over the summer, I read The Fault In Our Stars, by John Green. Even though it seems like every girl has read the story, I still believe this is a great book that has many important lessons and ideas overall. In this story, the main concept or idea is that you should always be appreciative of what you have because you never know when you could lose something important to you. John Green does a great job of making the story modern and relateable to get the point or main idea across. By the way he included important details, it felt like you were a character in the story at certain times in this book as well.
If I had to give this story a rate out of 10 i would easily give it 10 for many different reasons. One reason is because this story always had you intrigued and begging for more. It was also easy to relate to the characters and you witnessed them growing and changing throughout the book. For example: at the begining of the story, Hazel is a reserved, quiet, 17 year old girl and throught the story she evolves and becomes this more outgoing and happy girl because of Augustus. Augustus has a major impact on her life and he has changed her in the best way possible. This story also has an interesting plot because whenever you think something would happen, something totally unexpected would occur and it was like a rollercoaster of emotions.
Overall, this story taught me many important lessons and it impacted my life. John Green did a great job writing this story and I am definitely going to read some of his other books.
